Oculus Quest 2: your ticket to the Metaverse

This Christmas I gave myself a present: the Oculus Quest 2. Ehm, pardon. The Meta Quest 2. It’s an all-in-one VR headset, meaning you don’t need a PC to experience the virtual reality. It just works stand-alone. Out of the box.

My first experience with a VR headset was with PlayStation VR. I liked it, but it did not impress me. I mean the overall experience was cool, but the pixel resolution was very disappointing. Then there’s the problem that you have to be wired to the PlayStation and you can’t really walk around inside the virtual world.

The first VR headset released by Oculus had the same problem. It was called the Oculus Rift. It was an high-end headset for experiencing VR. I always thought that being wired to a PC was a limiting factor of the headset, and when the first Oculus Quest was released in 2019 I was sure that THAT was the future.

October 2020, the Quest 2 is released. The specs are just outstanding. A resolution of 1832 x 1920 per eye. In comparison the Valve Index offers only 1440 x 1600 per eye and it costs way more and still need a PC to work.

October 2021, a year after the Quest 2 release, Mark Zuckerberg presents his vision of Metaverse. I watched with deep interest his presentation and I was super excited by Project Cambria. That’s when I decided to buy the Quest 2. I had to see, touch, experience what everyone was talking about.

The Meta Quest 2 is without any doubt the headset that will let you experience the born of the Metaverse. The other headsets are limited to playing games and maybe watching some videos. The Meta Quest 2 is more… social.
